2019 Food & Beverage Business Award finalists

Kylie Martin – GF Oats Australia

The journey of food intolerances began for Kylie and her family over 25 years ago when she started her family and realised that they and their children had intolerances to various foods such as dairy, corn, soy, gluten, wheat to name a few.  During this time, it was literally impossible to source specialty foods to cater for dietary intolerances.  So, it was into the kitchen trialling recipes with new and incredibly hard to source ingredients. She launched her first range of health food pre-mixes in 2000 into health food and in 2009 started importing Gluten Free Oats into Australia. She is based in regional Queensland, Toowoomba, where she is now the biggest supplier of Gluten Free Oats throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Monique Treder – Happetite Food

Monique is a mum of 3 young boys with a passion for food and family. Coming from a European background, food always played a vital role in bringing people together, to celebrate, to share, and to enjoy. Her family gatherings were large groups of family and friends, a melting pot of food cultures and all hands on deck to prepare, cook and clean. From these events Monique learnt a great deal about life, working together, community and the importance of food in bringing people together. Food is more than just ingredients and preparation; it is an experience and a sharing of love through food. Monique’s upbringing is a large part of the reason and ethos of her business. Her vision is to grow this community spirit and sharing of love through food Australia wide.

Julia Foyster – Tweed Real Food

Julia founded Tweed Real Food in April 2018 to share her passion for ‘real’ food. Under the brand Tweed Real Food Julia creates incredibly delicious seasonings that bring people together to enjoy life over great meals. From nut free Avo Smash dukkah, rubs and salts, to the famous Bourbon Maple Splash Balsamic Vinegar, all unique blends are hand crafted on Julia’s farm in the beautiful Northern Rivers. The products are 100% plant based and free from Gluten and any other Nasties. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, like the Hemp Seed from their neighbouring farm or the vinegar base from South Australia.

Skye Douglass – HighBrit Beef

Skye is a mother of four living on a beef cattle property in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains in the South Burnett, Qld. Whilst at home with a newborn in 2014, she embarked on building a website for a paddock-to-plate beef business to compliment her husband’s commercial Angus beef herd. Having come from an environmental science background, it was important to Skye that she highlight the sustainable and regenerative approach to beef production undertaken on their farm as well as the humane and ethical raising of the animals. These are aspects also important to the business’ customers.

The business has grown and now delivers their 100% grass fed and finished beef throughout South East Queensland to many families. Skye has also combined with other local farmers to bring her customers ethical, sustainable, pastured and free-range pork, lamb and chicken.
