Jacqui Preugschat is a Brisbane based children’s book author who has a passion for encouraging girls to use their talents and learn new ones. Jacqui is a qualified Special Education Teacher, lectured in Criminology at university, short course writer and teacher for TAFE, and a qualified Genos Emotional Intelligence Practitioner. Jacqui is also a contributing writer at Kidspot, Thrive Global, Newscorp and a bronze and silver winner at the 2020 AusMumpreneur Awards. Currently, Jacqui is writing and illustrating her 4th book, a bedtime series for girls and has started her own Emotional Intelligence practice called ‘Integrity of Heart’.

When did you start your business?

I started my business in 2018.

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

With these books, Jacqui intends to; encourage families to spend quality time together by sharing fun activities; and foster lines of open communication within families, to create the foundation for strong and lasting relationships. By recognising the importance of having conversations with one another, Jacqui aims to create a compassionate and caring environment for children, with the hope of reducing the impact of childhood loneliness and social isolation..

What are you most excited about in your business?

I now have the right team behind me to support me in seeing my vision through for my book series and merchandise.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

Learning how to work smarter, not harder and I have learnt the most important commodity  is my time and how to use it wisely.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

You have to be 100% passionate, dedicated and inspired about your business, because if you’re not, how can you expect other people to be. Also surround yourself with creative, inspiring people who have caught the essence of your vision and want to also see it come to pass.

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

I loved what it stood for – which was supporting mums in business.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

Being part of the Ausmumpreneur community, making new relationships and supporting other women in business.

What surprised you most about the awards?

The prestige and networking opportunities.

How did the awards help you in your business?

Being part of the awards has given my business national exposure with many new beneficial relationships formed.

What advice would you give to others mums thinking about entering the awards?

Don’t hesitate to enter and when you do tell everyone!

What’s happening next in your business? Any big plans for the future?

I am currently writing and illustrating my 4th book and a bedtime series for girls. Also the  App to compliment the books is nearly finished. I am also now a contributing writer to kidspot and thrive global, and have started a podcast series called ‘Word on The Street’.
