We build beautiful pieces of furniture using Australian Hardwood and epoxy resin. Each piece is custom made to our clients unique needs. No two pieces are alike. We use locally sourced, renewable timber, and 100% Australian Made Epoxy Resin (our very own brand called Oakfield Clear). Striking epoxy resin features, cast against natural live edge timber, creates an eye-catching piece. It guarantees to grab your attention and give a reason to pause.
When did you start your business?
After losing my job during covid, I started Oakfield Designs. I had been in the optical industry for nearly 20 years, so felt extremely lost and deflated.
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
I had always admired Epoxy River Tables, and watched countless youtube videos of guys in the US making them. I thought.. I’m going to give this a go.
What are you most excited about in your business?
Creating my clients dreams. Every single Oakfield piece is 100% custom made. No 2 pieces are ever the same. That unique aspect makes what I do very special. I was also asked to create 2 pieces for ‘The Block’ this season. Can not wait until it airs. Very exciting times.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Being a woman in a male dominated industry. It certainly took a lot of ‘proving’ to be respected in this field.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Back yourself, and give it a go. I wish I had done it 10 years ago!
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
Being recognised in a National competition is very rewarding. It means even more to know it is backed by fellow mums.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
I looked up many of my fellow competitors and was in awe to see what they are creating. So many talented mums in this country.
What surprised you most about the awards?
How many talented mums there are! You are all amazing.
How did the awards help you in your business?
Having a Gold National Award attached to my business really helps cement Oakfields reputation of quality and excellence. The exposure for my business on a National platform is priceless.
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards? Definitely do it! It doesn’t matter if you win or not, you get to meet so many awesome mumpreneurs!
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
Being able to work around my busy home life. I now get to be at every pick up, drop off, assembly etc. And I get to do what I love… every single day!
What’s happening next in your business?
I have been investing all the profit from my business into purchasing bigger and better equipment. This will enable me to create tables quicker, and maintain the high standard that is expected.
What are your big plans for the future?
I would love to own a large factory, and employ many staff. I would love to be able to ship my pieces all around the world.
