Hi I’m Rebecca 🙂 I have been helping people recover from injuries to the hand and upper limb, by providing specialised physiotherapy treatments for 25 years now. It is a privilege to take people on a journey of recovery. My husband, Steve has supported my work within the community and we are raising three children. I strongly believe in empowering women to be able to use the gifts they have been given to contribute back to society and gain a sence of accomplishment and fulfilment while raising a family.

When did you start your business?

1998

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

Initially, I started the business to have flexibility, so my husband and I could also build a church service in the Inner West. I wanted to use my skills to help the people in my community recover from injuries. At that time there was a lack of hand physiotherapist in private practice in my local area.

What are you most excited about in your business?

I really love it when someone has the “ahh” moment to see how when they make the changes to recover and implement the knowledge they are given and see how they are empowered to change and heal. While exciting, I also know that they won’t be needing me for much longer and that is a sad part of the job.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

I was very fortunate in always have loads of referrals, until more recently, the competition is now stronger – which is a good thing in that more people have studies to learn how to look after people with hand and upper limb injuries – but it has shown me the not so nice side of competition within business. This is more challenging now then at the start.
A challenge throughout the years in running a business is the constant staffing issues.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

I think it is imperative for women to run businesses and contribute to the commercial sector of society. Our perspective is needed and so many societal constructs need to change to help women raise families and run business. When society supports this and puts value on both we will see great community. Go for it – it definitely gives you flexibility!
