When did you start your business?
I started my original marketing business in 2017 and pivoted into astrology-infused marketing and business strategy in 2021.
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
After working in traditional marketing for years, I realised many of us never take a really good look at ourselves and how we operate at a core level. We expect we can follow someone else’s launch formula or business plan and it will all just work out for us… And yet it rarely does.
Astrology is an amazing tool because it gives you a stronger understanding of yourself, your motivation, and your true purpose. And THIS is what allows you to have that clear, refined, unique, and unwavering marketing message that will sell.
What are you most excited about in your business?
I believe there’s a huge need and desire to do business and marketing in a more authentic, inspired way, and accessing the wisdom in our astrology chart allows us to do this.
I’m excited about showing more entrepreneurs how to use astrology as an incredible asset for better alignment and stronger results in their businesses. This is what my podcast and marketing services are all about and I absolutely LOVE what I do.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Pivoting from a traditional or mainstream marketing service business to an astrological business teaching and coaching model has been an enormous, yet exciting challenge.
A big turning point was letting go of a major launch copywriting contract in mid-2022, so I could focus more attention on building the coaching/astrology support side of my business.
This contract was worth more than US$50,000, which meant a significant decrease in revenue for the 2022-23 financial year. However, letting this go allowed me to bring more creative, inspired energy to the business and I know my revenue will grow in the next year.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Running a business is like being on a rollercoaster – there are scary times and absolutely incredible, sky-high times.
The truth is, there will be many moments where you’ll reach a dead end and think, ‘that’s it, I’m done!’
But there’s almost always another path forward. Sometimes you need a business friend, mentor or community to help you find it.
So, when you’re first starting out – build your support system. Find a community, network or a village. Don’t try to do it all on your own. The support system is what will keep you going when you feel like it’s all too much, and it’s what will celebrate you when things go amazingly well.
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
I wanted to celebrate all the hard work I’d been doing in my business and the progress I’d made in establishing myself as an expert in using astrology for business and marketing. It didn’t matter whether I won or not – entering the awards (after being nominated by a wonderful client and business friend) was just a way of backing myself and what I’ve been building.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
I love the atmosphere – the supportive community of women who are all striving to create businesses that support their families and their incredible ambitions. Being in that kind of energy is so motivating.
What surprised you most about the awards?
I wasn’t able to attend the awards event in Sydney because I had a newborn baby, but even watching from home I could really feel that wonderful, supportive vibe from all the people in the room.
How did the awards help you in your business?
Through the awards, I’ve been able to put myself forward for media opportunities and I’ve been approached for a really exciting and fun business collaboration that I can’t talk about just yet…
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?
Do it! It’s such an amazing process to reflect on your business wins and acknowledge how far you’ve come and where you truly want to go. The community, support and motivation is amazing. And by doing this, you will naturally start to envision your future self, which is such a powerful exercise for anyone in business to do.
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
The best thing about starting my own business has been the freedom to do things on my terms. I am an innovator and I love to try new ideas and break the mould in my industry. That’s much more difficult to do when you work for someone else. I feel so excited and enlivened by my business because it allows me to be the fully expressed, passionate and intense version of me. And I get to have deep, enriching and transformative conversations with my clients and my audience every day.
What’s happening next in your business?
I’m working on expanding my digital product suite and growing the reach and impact of the podcast. I’m teaching people everything from how to plan their marketing and promotion schedules with astrology, to how to uplevel their business brand and visibility strategies with cosmic support.
What are your big plans for the future?
The Cosmic Business Academy is something I hope to bring to fruition in the next few years – an education and support hub for all things related to astrology and online business or entrepreneurship.
