When did you start your business?

2017

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

To help the undeniable high number of exhausted parents around me. As well as to be able to work around the needs of my kids.

What are you most excited about in your business?

The flexibility of when I work, how I work, and who I work with.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

Putting myself out there, out of my comfort zone, to get exposure for the business, to start getting the first few clients through the door. These moments still exist at times, to ensure the business continues to prosper and grow.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

Look for networks of people to gain learnings and support from. A mix of people who have been successful in business for some time, as well as people starting out just like you.

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

I heard about it a few years ago. I bravely nominated myself as apparently that is what people did (I had never even realised there were award programs before this). I thought it would help with exposure (and it did!). I ended up meeting so many lovely, like minded people which was just awesome.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

The community element of us all coming together and celebrating each other’s wins. Makes all the hard work behind the scenes of our businesses, a lot easier to take, and drives you to keep striving.

What surprised you most about the awards?

That there were so many categories and so many women in business nailing life in respect to doing worthwhile work. There is no judgement or competition – which seems so strange I guess as I write it, but you don’t feel that at all. Everyone is supporting each other and stoked if you win and they don’t!

How did the awards help you in your business?

It helped me see my business more clearly. Applying for an award takes time and reflection. It’s a very good exercise to do to identify the goodness, and possibly areas to improve on, in your business. Being recognised for the work you do and work you take pride in, being recognised as valuable, is a huge confidence boost, and can often allow you to grow – both personally and professionally.

What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?

What do you have to lose? It doesn’t matter if you don’t win. It gives you a chance to take stock of all the hard work you do within your business. Coupled with this, you get more exposure for your business – which is always a good thing. It’s fun too! We have a blast each awards night if we are fortunate to go.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

It’s hard to bring it down to one. Can I pick two? It would be the flexibility that comes with being my own boss, and the ability to do meaningful work that positively changes lives.

What’s happening next in your business?

I am growing my team of consultants to work 1:1 with families. My role will be changing. I will be doing more speaking, advocating, supporting tired working parents, through avenues such as Corporate Well-being programs, health/hospital programs.

What are your big plans for the future?

That we continue to be the go to consultancy for gentle proven strategies that solve sleep issues once and for all, however on a larger scale. With a larger consultant team, and with my increased exposure within businesses, our reach will increase.
