My name is Emma Sheth, and I’m the founder of Milk + Honey, a children’s boutique and café based in West End. Milk + Honey offers a curated selection of boutique children’s products along with a cozy café experience where parents can relax while their little ones play. As a mum of two, I’ve always wanted to create a space that brings together my love for family, community, and business. Milk + Honey reflects that passion—it’s more than just a store; it’s a place for families to connect and feel supported.
When did you start your business?
I launched Milk + Honey in 2022! It’s been an incredible journey from the moment we opened our doors!
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
The inspiration came from my desire to create a family-friendly space where parents can shop for boutique children’s products and enjoy a café setting at the same time. As a mother, I often struggled to find spaces that catered to both kids and adults. I wanted to fill that gap and provide a relaxing atmosphere for both.
What are you most excited about in your business?
I’m most excited about seeing how Milk + Honey has become a community hub for parents and children. Watching families come together and build connections in our space fills me with pride and joy. It’s also exciting to see how the boutique side of the business continues to grow with unique and curated products.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Balancing motherhood and business ownership has been a constant challenge. Juggling the needs of a growing business with my responsibilities as a mum often requires tough decisions, but it has also been a rewarding learning experience.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
My advice is to start before you feel ready. You’ll never have all the answers, and that’s okay! It’s more important to take that leap and learn as you go. Also, surround yourself with a supportive network of other business owners and mentors who can help guide you along the way.
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
I entered the AusMumpreneur Awards because it felt like a great opportunity to celebrate not just my achievements, but the journey of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. It’s a chance to connect with other like-minded women and share our stories.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
I really enjoyed meeting other incredible mums who are doing amazing things with their businesses. The sense of community and mutual support was inspiring, and it reminded me that we’re all in this together.
What surprised you most about the awards?
I was surprised by how supportive and empowering the entire experience was. It wasn’t just a competition—it was about building connections and celebrating the unique challenges we face as mums and business owners.
How did the awards help you in your business?
The awards have given Milk + Honey increased visibility and credibility. Being recognized as a finalist and taking home bronze helped boost our profile and brought more customers through our doors. It also gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward in my business journey.
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?
Go for it! The experience is incredibly rewarding, not just for the recognition but for the community and support you’ll gain along the way. Even if you don’t win, you’ll walk away with so much more than you expected.
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
The best part has been seeing my vision come to life. Watching Milk + Honey grow into a place that supports families and provides a fun, relaxing environment is incredibly fulfilling. I’ve also loved the flexibility it provides in balancing work and family life.
What’s happening next in your business?
We’re continuing to expand our product range and collaborate with local suppliers. We’re also planning more community events that bring parents and kids together for fun activities and workshops.
What are your big plans for the future?
I’m looking to grow Milk + Honey beyond just one location, with plans to introduce more community-centered spaces in different neighborhoods. I’m also exploring ways to expand our boutique product line with exclusive items that aren’t available anywhere else.
