Tash Davis, Pebbly Path – we make extraordinary rocky road for people who hate boring bits! We handcraft all products in Mudgee using locally grown ingredients, and package it in 100% plastic free packaging. We then donate a percentage of our profits to LIVIN mental health organisation.
When did you start your business?
January 2021
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
I wanted to create a life for myself that was structured around my life, and that I wouldn’t feel the need to “escape” from. I wanted to work in a supportive, inclusive environment that fully understood the complexities of being a working mother, and I felt the only way to achieve this was to start my own business.
What are you most excited about in your business?
Creating a community of like-minded people who support each other and encourage each other to be the best, and most authentic version of themselves.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Cash flow. Who knew that to have a business that generates the pay equal to 3 days of work as a nurse, actually means all this investment and time.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Find your why, then make it happen. You will sacrifice a lot, so you won’t do it for the profits alone, you need a deeper reason.
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
I am sad to say, that I really value the opinion and validation from others. I am not a confident person naturally, and it takes a lot for me to believe in myself, so I entered the awards as a way of hopefully gaining that external validation I so desperately crave!
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
Meeting other business women, and of course winning the silver in my category!
What surprised you most about the awards?
The calibre of other entrants
How did the awards help you in your business?
Telling people you have a good business idea and a good product is not as convincing as one might expect. Social proof is what people use to make decisions about their spending, and winning awards is a sure-fire way to get some brilliant social proof.
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?
Do it! And if you don’t win the first time, evaluate the winners to keep improving your business until you get the win 🙂
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
My happiness has improved out of sight. I feel part of my local community and can walk down the street and say hi to people who know me, for the first time.
What’s happening next in your business?
We are currently experiencing rapid growth in the wholesale market, and will continue to do that until we become a household name.
What are your big plans for the future?
Expansion into overseas markets, new products, and hope to become an official partner of the LIVIN mental health organisation that we currently donate to.
