Genevieve Dennis is the founder of Easy Closure, a legal-tech platform transforming how law firms manage deceased estates. Built on nearly two decades of experience simplifying life administration through Easy Name Change, Easy Closure leverages AI to extract will provisions, flag risks, and generate clear distribution reports, all while enabling collaboration between executors, families, and lawyers. Based on the Gold Coast, Genevieve is passionate about using technology to modernise outdated legal processes, lighten the load for grieving families, and empower female-led innovation.

When did you start your business?

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

Easy Closure was born from the success of our first platform, Easy Name Change, which has simplified life administration for thousands of people across four countries. We saw an opportunity to leverage that proven technology in the complex space of deceased estates — but take it further. By embedding AI, we’ve been able to mirror the way lawyers actually work, while layering in secure collaboration so families can be invited into the process. This not only reduces repetitive tasks for law firms but also makes estate administration more transparent and compassionate.

What are you most excited about in your business?

So many things, I can hardly sit still! We’re bringing new-to-world technology into an industry that hasn’t changed in decades. I get to work on cutting-edge innovation alongside my co-founder (and husband), while easing the burden on a legal system still hooked on billable hours. Most importantly, we’re making estate administration more transparent and engaging for families — giving them clarity and a voice during one of life’s hardest times.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

Coming from a non-legal background, the biggest challenge has been developing a deep understanding of how law firms actually work so we can identify and strip out the repetitive tasks. Thankfully, a number of generous firms have taken the time to share their processes with me. Their openness has been invaluable in shaping Easy Closure into a tool that genuinely fits the legal workflow while lightening the load for both lawyers and families.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

There’s no ideal time to start your business. If the idea is so good that it’s keeping you up at night with excitement, just start.

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

Our business has been quietly developing leading technology in the shadows, and I felt it was time to step forward and acknowledge what we’ve achieved. Saving newlyweds 250 years of paperwork didn’t happen overnight! With our exciting new venture underway, the awards gave us the perfect chance to pause, reflect, and celebrate the journey so far. AusMumpreneur has validated all the hard work we’ve put in — and reminded us how far we’ve come.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

The absolute highlight was connecting with other amazing women who understand the grit and determination it takes to build a business. Being able to step away from the day-to-day, celebrate our wins together, and share stories in such a supportive environment was energising. The sense of community and celebration made the whole experience truly special.

What surprised you most about the awards?

The sense of community. Being surrounded by so many inspiring women who truly understand the highs and lows of building a business was energising. I loved hearing their stories, celebrating their wins, and realising we’re all driven by the same desire to create impact while balancing family and business. The awards weren’t just about recognition — they were about connection, encouragement, and feeling part of something much bigger. (winning was also a massive feather in the cap!)

How did the awards help you in your business?

The awards have made me more confident in taking credit where it’s due. They’ve also provided a great platform to raise the profile of both myself and my businesses. For Easy Closure, that visibility is invaluable as we bring new technology into a traditional industry, and the recognition helps open doors with partners and clients.

What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?

Just do it — you won’t regret it! It’s not only about winning, it’s about being surrounded by incredible women who’ve also been in the trenches of building a business. And honestly, it’s such a joy to step out of those trenches for a few days, slip into a gown, and truly celebrate how far you’ve come.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

The freedom! I don’t have to ask a boss for time off over the holidays — instead, we take the family overseas for six weeks every summer. I can go to school events in the middle of the day, finish work at 1pm on a Friday, or even just sleep in if I want to. That flexibility has been one of the greatest rewards of building my own business.

What’s happening next in your business?

We’re crossing our fingers for a QLD Government grant that will help supercharge our launch of Easy Closure. We’re right on the cusp of commercialisation and excited to bring more real-world users onto the platform. Meanwhile, Easy Name Change continues to stand the test of time — 17 years on, it’s proving more relevant than ever as we guide overwhelmed newlyweds through a maze of bureaucracy. We’re also celebrating new deals in the USA for Easy Name Change, and our very first partnerships for Easy Closure.

What are your big plans for the future?

Our big vision is to see Easy Closure become the go-to platform for deceased estate administration across Australia, easing the burden for families and modernising the way law firms work. Longer term, we see the opportunity to take this technology global, just as we did with Easy Name Change. We’ll keep building partnerships, expanding our reach, and pushing the boundaries of how technology can simplify life’s most complex and emotional paperwork.
