Tell us about yourself and your business?
I have founded two businesses. Serenity Press and my own brand KarenMcDermott.com.au
What was your inspiration for your business?
I believe that everyone has a story to share. I discovered how powerful words can be and felt passionate about being instrumental in the process of books getting published that may not have come to be if I had not have been part of the journey.
Did you have any experience in running a business or in this industry before?
No, I started with a passion to make a difference and an open mind ready for an adventure.
What’s your point of difference that makes your business special or unique?
I am very determined once I set an intention. I am not afraid of working hard if need be and I LOVE what I do. Books and babies are my life.
What have you learnt about yourself since becoming an entrepreneur?
That I inspire others by pursuing my dreams and purpose.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced and how have you overcome them?
Financial is always a big block when building a business from an idea. I grew at a rate that was comfortable at first and then as I gained momentum I would creates ways to generate cash flow that would fund my ventures. Not achieving my goals was not an option!
What lessons have your business taught you about life?
How I define success. Often we pursue success and that doesn’t lead us to our true purpose. It is in living our true purpose that happiness resides. Knowing what that is for you is important as if we tilt too far on the scales we feel unbalanced and overwhelmed. So identifying where that sits comfortably for you is how I define success.
If you could go back to when you were starting your business and give your younger self some advice what would you tell her?
Never doubt your Knowing.
What’s next for your business?
Serenity Press is becoming well established. My vision for this amazing company has always been to make it a million dollar company and we are well on our way to that. I am really enjoying the Serenity journey right now and we have a few exciting retreats to look forward to also. Through my Karenmcdermott.com.au brand I continue to mentor, speak and grow my publishing academy.
If you could change the world, and money was no object, what would you do?
I would still do what I am doing but I would write more and travel with my family more.
