When did you start your business?
April 2019
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
Insanity maybe lol. My husband and I left our normal jobs and started our own respective business at the same time. We did this because we wanted flexibility and to create a work environment based on our values, especially being able to adjust our day to help our children when needed
What are you most excited about in your business?
Being able to help other businesses with an area that is often overlooked: Admin. Most of the business we work with are a specialised business and their expertise is focused on there trade so the admin, marketing, advertising, policy documentation you know all the boring stuff gets forgotten. Unfortunately, it’s a necessary evil.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Imposter syndrome. In the beginning I would be plagued with thought of “what am I doing” I’m not an expert” “what would I know”. Well, the thing is you must push through that because the work I’m doing was the same work I did when I had a job, and it was well received.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Do it, yes you will have doubts, nothing is guaranteed. If you have a passion, get focused and get paid for it, any doubt now will be eclipsed by the pain of regret if you don’t
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
I had no choice; I was nominated by a friend and that was it. However, it is a great idea to enter these awards. The authority it can give you when presenting proposals to potential clients it make it totally worth while
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
It was seeing so many other women in the same boat as me. So much talent, it has been an inspiration
What surprised you most about the awards?
They were run really well, especially being virtual I know a bit about event organising and these awards where done really well. Congratulations team!
How did the awards help you in your business?
Authority: being able to add the logo to my proposals has made it totally worthwhile
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?
Don’t hesitate, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain and you will learn a lot about yourself and your business
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
Being only answerable to myself it’s a freedom that I never expected to be so amazing.
What’s happening next in your business?
I started a business call “My VA time” it is for other VAs to join, to pass on all my advice so they don’t have to stumble over the same avoidable hurdles that I did. So far it has been very rewarding
What are your big plans for the future?
Eventually I would like the business to work mostly without my daily input and I can start on more philanthropic ventures
