When did you start your business?

2009

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

Fifteen years ago, I established Style Me Over to reignite women’s inner confidence through a distinctive, tailored approach that synchronises mindset, body, and style. In essence, to help women feel good, and as a result, look good.

What are you most excited about in your business?

By engaging with women both in-person and online, Style Me Over goes beyond the digital realm to facilitate transformations in their mindset, body, and style. Our array of products and digital resources serves as catalysts for this empowerment journey.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

The most significant challenge I’ve encountered starting the Style Me Over business venture is the process of identifying the perfect niche and ensuring that my investment yields a solid return while maintaining financial stability. It can be quite daunting to be aware that you possess something valuable to offer that can make a difference, but at the same time, finding the right market segment to mesh and get a return on your energy, time and financial investment. However, the key is to persist and not give up. Once you do discover your niche and persevere through the challenges, the journey becomes incredibly rewarding, both personally and financially.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

When advising women on starting a business, prioritize aligning values with entrepreneurship. Before diving into a business plan, clarify personal values. Question why entrepreneurship appeals more than traditional employment, as it brings both freedom and added responsibilities. Ensure the business aligns with values to avoid compromising family time or flexibility.

Trust the process; timing may vary, and you can’t have it all at once. Be clear on values to build a fulfilling business, not just a job. Remember, the only true failure is giving up. Perseverance is vital for success; keep pushing forward despite challenges.

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

Because I was nominated by someone in my community and I have never won a certificate or award in my life and I feel particularly the last 5 years in business, if I was to win an award it would be now, as I feel I am worthy of it, so I said sure why not.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

What I enjoyed the most about being a part of the awards was celebrating numerous women from diverse backgrounds who’ve pursued their dreams while being mothers. It was truly inspiring to witness their dedication, resilience, and the remarkable achievements they’ve accomplished while balancing motherhood, and it reaffirmed the limitless potential within each of us.

What surprised you most about the awards?

What surprised me the most about the awards was the incredible dedication and enthusiasm of the attendees. People from all over Australia came together for the evening, dressed to the nines, showcasing a genuine commitment to celebrating the accomplishments of women. It was heartwarming to see such a high level of support and effort put into making the event a memorable and glamorous occasion.

How did the awards help you in your business?

The awards significantly benefited my business in a remarkable way. Winning three of the People’s Choice awards was a testament to the unwavering support of my customer community. Their votes and dedication showcased the strength we have in numbers and the incredible trust and belief they have in my mission. This recognition not only boosted my business’s reputation but also bolstered my confidence in the loyal and supportive customer base I’ve cultivated. It reinforced the importance of nurturing and maintaining strong relationships with my customers, as their trust and advocacy are invaluable assets to the success and growth of my business.

What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?

For fellow Mums considering entering awards, I would offer this advice: First, deeply reflect on your WHY for wanting to win an award. Understand the purpose behind it. Second, consider how winning will benefit you and your business. Be clear about the advantages. Third, evaluate whether you can commit the necessary time away from your business, ensuring that your motivations are genuine and not solely for show. Ultimately, entering should be about boosting your confidence and taking your business to new heights, gaining valuable exposure in the process.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

The most rewarding aspect of launching my own business has been the incredible flexibility it offers. I’ve been able to build a business around my childbearing years and maintain a vital work-life balance, which has been paramount for me. Knowing that I earn my own income by generating it myself has instilled a profound sense of independence and self-reliance.

Moreover, the journey of entrepreneurship has been a continuous learning experience. I’ve learned valuable lessons from my past failures and setbacks, each one making me more resilient and resourceful. This ongoing learning process has not only enriched me as a businesswoman but also empowered me with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving business landscape.

Overall, the combination of flexibility, the ability to balance work and family, financial independence, and the opportunity for constant growth and empowerment has made starting my own business an incredibly fulfilling and enriching journey.

What’s happening next in your business?

After 15 years as a Stylist and retailer, with a core focus on helping individuals reconnect with their confidence through their style, I’m embarking on an exciting new chapter. While style and fashion have been my passion, I’ve come to realise that the foundation of it all is one’s mindset. Therefore, I’m shifting my focus towards more so empowerment coaching.

As someone who identifies as an extroverted introvert, I’ve found that simply offering digital products online and connecting with customers through a camera on social media doesn’t fully align with my true passion. This October, I’m taking a bold step by relocating my headquarters to a local space within my community. I’ll be opening a bricks-and-mortar Fashion and Lifestyle boutique with minimal hours that fit comfortably within my work-life balance, centred around my children’s schedule.

This move will not only provide my customers with a more personalised and connected experience but will also reignite my own passion for what I do. In a world where connection matters more than ever, especially for women, I’m fully committed to this new direction, and I can’t wait to see where it takes both my business and my clients on their empowerment journeys.

What are your big plans for the future?

We’re expanding our online presence by offering a wider range of digital coaching services. These resources will empower individuals to enhance their confidence, style, and personal growth from the comfort of their own space.

One of the most anticipated developments on the horizon is the launch of our ‘How to Run a Fashion E-Commerce Store’ mastermind program. This initiative will cater to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the competitive world of online fashion retail.

The past 12 months have provided a valuable reset, offering the clarity and vision necessary for these exciting endeavours. As we move forward, we invite you to watch this space for all the inspiring transformations and opportunities that lie ahead at StyleMeOver.com
