When did you start your business?

2020
2023 – VA Coaching

What was the inspiration behind starting this business?

The inspiration came after I was made redundant at 28 weeks pregnant, following a 14-year career as
a corporate PA. This pivotal moment led me to leverage my skills and experiences to start my own VA
business, turning a challenging situation into a new opportunity.

What are you most excited about in your business?

I’m most excited about empowering other women, especially mothers, to launch their own VA
businesses. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help them achieve the same freedom and flexibility that I have
enjoyed, enabling them to balance their professional goals with their family life effectively.

What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?

Over time, I’ve learned that it’s crucial to switch off and stop myself from overworking. Maintaining a
healthy work-life balance has been a significant challenge, but setting and enforcing boundaries has
become essential for my well-being and the business’s success.

What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?

DO IT.

Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?

I entered the AusMumpreneur Awards to celebrate the journey of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship, and to connect with other inspiring women who are doing the same. These awards offer a platform to showcase the achievements of women who are driving change in their communities while managing the demands of family life. For me, it was also an opportunity to recognise and reflect on the growth and impact of my business, Coastal Community Support Services, and to inspire other mothers to pursue their own entrepreneurial dreams, showing that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?

The community and networking opportunities were incredible. The people I met through the awards
were next-level supportive and inspiring. Engaging with such a dynamic group truly enhanced the whole
experience.

What surprised you most about the awards?

The incredible support from everyone involved was truly surprising, especially the encouragement from
those in the same category. It was a phenomenal display of women supporting women, and it was both
beautiful to witness and be a part of.

How did the awards help you in your business?

The awards have given me more motivation to keep pushing forward and reinforcing my confidence
that I’m on the right path. Winning such recognition confirms that this is my calling and encourages me to
continue striving for excellence in my business.

What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?

Absolutely go for it! You have nothing to lose and so much to gain. Winning is great, but the experience
is invaluable regardless. It’s all a learning curve, and you’ll make connections that can prove more
valuable than any trophy. Don’t hesitate to take this opportunity to grow and network.

What has been the best thing about starting your own business?

The best thing about starting my own business has definitely been the freedom it offers. It allows me to
effectively balance my professional and personal life, ensuring that I’m always there for my family when
they need me. This flexibility has been a game-changer.

What’s happening next in your business?

Next up, we’re opening Nook.collective (https://nookcollective.com.au/), a co-working space and
content studio based on the Sunshine Coast. This new venue will offer a place where professionals and
parents can work, meet clients, shoot content and record podcasts, all with the convenience of a staffed
kids’ room. Additionally, I’m excited to give back by offering my VA services pro bono to an incredible
not-for-profit brand I met at the recent AusMumpreneur Gala.

What are your big plans for the future?

I plan to expand my team, which will allow more local mums the opportunity to enjoy flexibility in their
careers. I would also like to grow my coaching clientele and continue being a support for more women in
the VA industry.
