I am a Clinical Psychologist and run 3 private psychology clinics across Australia. I founded Succoris to achieve the principles of being able to provide affordable, accesible mental health care to individuals, as well as creating safe and supportive workplaces for staff. All whilst maintaining sustainable business practices.
When did you start your business?
Year 2019
What was the inspiration behind starting this business?
It was as a response to having been in several really terrible workplaces and thinking I could do it better! 😉
What are you most excited about in your business?
I love seeing staff grow on their career trajectory and helping them achieve their goals.
What has been the most challenging thing about starting your business?
Recruiting of the right staff members has been incredibly challenging.
What advice would you give to other women thinking about starting a business?
Plan and prepare. I was told by multiple people that I should expect my business to fail. If it didn’t fail then I the best I should hope for was to lose money in the first year, to break even in the second and possibly make a profit in my third, if I was still open.
My business was profitable in the first three months of opening and I attribute this success to the huge amount of planning and preparation that I put into understanding my business model prior to opening.
Why did you enter the AusMumpreneur Awards?
I was hoping to build brand awareness, credibility and also continue to work to de-stigmatise mental health support. By winning silver in the wellbeing category, I believe this demonstrates that mental health is as much a part of wellbeing as physical health is.
What did you enjoy the most about being part of the awards?
I met some wonderful women in my local area who are doing amazing work.
What surprised you most about the awards?
How supportive everyone was, even of those in their own categories.
How did the awards help you in your business?
It was great to dedicate time to thinking about the answers to the questions I was asked and really think about all the hard work and achievements over the past few years. It has also helped me to think about what I hope to achieve in the next year too.
What advice would you give to other mums thinking about entering the awards?
That they should absolutely get involved as it is a great place to meet a huge network of fabulous women who are raising each other up.
What has been the best thing about starting your own business?
Having a better work/life balance and being able to spend more time with my family.
What’s happening next in your business?
I am delivering webinars to organisations regarding how they can create psychologically safe workplaces and understand new workplace mental health legislations with the aim of developing an Employee Assistance Program arm of the business.
What are your big plans for the future?
I would love to have 5 sites, all running independently of me so that I can afford to work on other projects.
